Voter & Vaccine Registration 3/27/21

community. cooperation. purpose.

Together we registered 230 people for the Covid vaccine, as well as registering some new voters! This is a story of people coming together across neighborhoods to serve our community by getting more folks protected from the virus, and encouraging more folks to participate in the upcoming local elections on May 1.

It started when the President of Stripling PTA reached out to South Hi Mount PTA about what would become our event at Thomas Place Community Center on March 27. We reached out to Roxanne Martinez because she had recently had a very successful vaccine registration drive. Fernando Peralta reached out, too, and in the end we scheduled our events over the entire day at 3 locations. Roxanne supplied us with 2,000 masks and put us in touch with Emily and Katy at UNT Health Science Center for med student volunteers. Blue Zones Project Fort Worth & Texas Health Resources supplied registration forms, clipboards, and hand sanitizer (as did Tarrant County College). South Hi Mount Elementary PTA supplied tables & chairs, and South Hi Mount Elementary School's librarian Ashley Quintana's mom and step dad, who are Deputy Registrars, came out to register citizens to vote, including one young man that was celebrating his 18th birthday! We also had some wonderful student volunteers from Arlington Heights High School, and volunteers from Arlington Heights UMC. And a huge thank you to South Hi Mount parent Deborah Rodriguez for all her help!

It ended up being a wonderful day of community at Thomas Place (and the other locations) with neighbors talking about important issues like equity, supporting public education, Covid education and outreach, voter registration, and the upcoming local elections.

In addition to Fernando Peralta (Fort Worth City Council District 9 candidate), and Roxanne Martinez (FWISD School Board candidate), current FWISD Trustee CJ Evans came by to help out, as well as Lee Henderson (candidate for Fort Worth City Council District 7).

Beautiful day at our neighborhood community center!

Registering to vote on his 18th Birthday!

These volunteers from UNT HSC did an amazing job getting everyone's registration in the system

They entered the data from 169 vaccine registration forms!
